General Summary
Provide construction layout for Walsh & Kelly crews and sub-contractors.

Main Responsibilities:
 Set grades and establish locations for grade crews, concrete, pipe and asphalt crews
 Coordinate GPS machine control maps with projects
 Establish project limits and reference points used during construction
 Perform topographic surveys on sites to ensure proper drainage and asphalt/concrete placement

Secondary Responsibilities:
 Perform Take-offs for jobs to be bid
 Prepare as built drawings for jobs as needed
 Verify quantities
 Prepare 3-D models for GPS machine control
 Inventory and maintenance of field equipment use by crews (levels, lasers, rods, etc.)

Educational Requirements:
 Bachelors degree preferred, or equivalent work experience in the construction field within the area of surveying

Professional Experience:
 3-5 years of heavy highway construction is highly preferred under the supervision of an experienced construction surveyor

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
 Familiarity with INDOT standards and specs, as well as those of local municipalities
 Understanding coordinate geometry and its applications
 Knowledge of fundamental surveying practices and principles
 Understand the tolerances for the equipment used, and what is and is not acceptable for each task
 Must understand the effects of construction layout on its surroundings; in terms of drainage and will it function as intended
 Strong understanding of architectural blueprint and drawings
 Strong math skills
 Working knowledge of CAD software or equivalent
 Familiarity with GPS surveying technology: Trimble preferred, Topcon acceptable
 Understanding of overall heavy highway construction process and phasing
 Ability to communicate with site managers, project managers, inspectors and crew foremen to aide in efficient and fluid project completion
 Must be able to walk over rough terrain on a daily basis
 Ability to use hammers up to 8 pounds

Physical Requirements:
 Must be able to use eyes, hands, arms, fingers, sit, stand, walk on rough conditions, stoop, carry up to 50 lbs., use stairs, strong peripheral vision, drive a motorized vehicle, and work in indoor and outdoor environments that may be cold, hot and have dust and fumes as normal per paving operations.
