General Summary
Achieve and maintain density of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) products in the field, as well as insuring quality standards to meet or exceed Walsh & Kelly and customer expectations.

Main Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
 Manage and evaluate on each jobsite, the density of the HMA utilizing the Non-Nuclear Density Gauge (PQI)
 Develop and maintain the pattern and process for which density is achieved via communication and roller set up with the paving crew
 Coring of the HMA for the purpose of verification and quality control/assurance
 Plate sampling of the HMA for the purpose of quality control/assurance per INDOT test method (ITM)580
 Communicate and maintain positive relationships with INDOT, job owners or their representatives in the field

Secondary Responsibilities:
 Back up HMA Plant Technician
 Perform general labor in all facets of the company as directed

Educational Requirements:
 High school diploma or equivalent work experience
 Must be able to attain HMA Plant Technician Certification through INDOT within the first season hire

Professional Experience:
 One year of hands-on within the HMA field, preferably within the quality control segment with density control

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
 Basic knowledge of the HMA industry
 Basic math and organizational skills
 Must have the ability to technically evaluate data and make corrections to meet standards
 Ability to work within a team environment to meet company core values
 Must have strong communication skills to report findings to various groups
 Must have a valid driver’s license and safely able to tow a trailer

Physical Requirements:
 Must be able to use eyes, hands, arms, fingers, sit, stand, walk, stoop, carry up to 50 lbs., use stairs, drive a motorized vehicle, and work in indoor and outdoor environments that may be cold, hot and have dust and fumes as normal per paving operations.
